Old East Village

The neighbourhood of Old East Village
The houses are mostly pre-1946 blend of Victorian homes. There are a lot of traditional yellow brick homes. The neighbours are very active in the community and with each other. There is a strong sense of community in this area. There are some wonderful character homes with many of them displaying a plaque describing who lived there in the past. The Old East Village Community Association is one of the most active in the City. The citizens here are engaged and care deeply about their neighbourhood and the City.

One of my favourite attraction in Old East Village is the wildly popular Wester Farm Farmers Market held every Saturday. This wonderful market is filled to the brim with producers bringing their fresh fruits and vegetable, bakers with artisanal bread, lovely handmade made meals, cheese mongers, fish mongers, many butchers etc to name a just a few! There are also a few restaurants on site that serve delicious foods. The area is also home to the annual Western Fair. This traditional Fall Fair has something for everyone.

The past fews years in Old East have seen an explosion in new restaurants and retail spaces. True Taco (best Chilis Rellenos in town!), The Root Cellar (delicious organic and local foods prepared perfectly), and Unique Food Attitudes (contemporary European cuisine) are some great ones to check out.
Old East Village is a gem in the heart of the City. The Old East Village is designated a Heritage Conservation District for it’s unique Commercial streetscape and beautiful heritage homes. The Village has a very active community association. There is a wonderfully wide swath of people that live in the village. From students, to artists, to academics, to professionals there is truly something for everyone in this vibrant neighbourhood.

Old East still remains on of the most affordable neighbourhoods in the City. Your dollar goes a long way in this neighbourhood.
